The Arrival of Spring

See @markbrennan_arrivalofspring on instagram for this body of work.

I’ve started a collaborative project with a group of artists from the UK and North Eastern USA, looking at the arrival of spring. I settled on a meditative study of a section of river floodplain near me that I will visit as much as I can from now until June. the plan is to photograph sketch, paint, and observe the arrival of spring in 2024 and 2025 in conjunction with others. You can follow along with this project HERE on Instagram.

Left: a recent photograph from of the small hamlet of Glengarry on the Middle River, Nova Scotia that I will be visiting frequently for this project. The location is a short 10 minute drive from my home and should province an interesting study area over the coming months as winter begins to loosen its grip on the landscape and move into spring.

While recovering from a bout with Covid in late January 2024 I spent some time in the studio working up small acrylic sketches on watercolour paper. There was definitely some healing power in this and I am surprised by the strong colour and patterns in these sketches despite having very little energy. Thankful to be on the mend and almost myself. These small sketches are available in the purchase area.

Enjoying working up acrylic 8x10’s on watercolour paper recently. Its enjoyable to use a different surface and the application of opaque acrylic that gives a lovely subtle layering and richness of colour. These are all available under the ‘purchase’ link.
