I took this photograph just before sunrise at a lake about 30km from my studio in Nova Scotia. Piper Lake is very easily accessed as a road runs close to its shore. I had actually stopped to listen to the bird song that morning and noticed the crescent moon in the Eastern sky, it was perfection in the making. I am very familiar with the spot as I have painted and recorded nature sounds here quite a few times over the years, so I had a good idea where I could find the best composition. This photograph was an 8 second exposure, it was one of two I took that morning. One of the difficulties was waiting for a gap in the clouds so that I could have the moon visible in the image, the sun was rising quickly and the moon was losing its brightness so I worked quickly and captured what you see here. It is lovely to see this going to print and a moment in nature I think of often.
