The Landscape work here covers the past few years of both painting in the field and the studio.
Thematically, water seems to be a presence in Marks work continuously, it is a relationship that stems from a childhood growing up on a sea loch in Scotland and of course the magic of traveling by canoe.
“Over the years my idea of what art actually is has changed. At one time my work represented my own passion for wilderness, while this still holds, I now find newer work attempts to capture the essence of the land and that the final painting becomes an object through which my own state of awareness or being alive in the present moment has been enhanced. Once these paintings leave my studio, they take on a life of their own, through their new owner and the subsequent viewers through time. Interpretation then, is also their own.“
